Scrabble background
One of the best word games to play is Scrabble. The game was actually invented by an architect in 1933. Alfred Mosher Butts noted how many points each letter would be worth by exploring their frequency on The New York Times front page.
Originally, this game was called Lexico before it was changed to Criss-Cross and finally, Scrabble in the 1950s. Though perhaps difficult to believe today due to its incredible popularity, Butts was unable to find a game manufacturer interested in Scrabble. He instead created the games himself, operating from his garage.
It wouldn’t be bought by Macy’s until 1957. Despite a long history, scrabble has not changed much at all, however, there are variations like Clabbers. This version of the game allows you to put down the letters in any order, as long as they are an anagram of a word.
If you’re interested in playing Scrabble, you can find this word game by downloading it from the app store on the App Store .
